ABOUT LIGHT BOX LABORATORIES

Light Box Laboratories is a therapeutic photography group for underprivileged and at-risk teens, run by photographer Teresa Meier. The course is designed to provide the opportunity for self-exploration and self-expression through photography and the opportunity to engage in a project designed to enhance community well-being. Participants are given the opportunity to learn from local artists during scheduled guest lectures and are invited to participate in an exhibition of the students’ best work.

Photosynthesis is a photography club based at David Douglas High School and is a collaboration between prevention specialist Laura Stanley of Trillium Family Services and Teresa Meier of Light Box Laboratories. Teresa and Laura collaborated to provide a small group of students from David Douglas High School the opportunity to partcipate in both a six-month long course and a one-week intensive course. White Rabbit Laboratories provided photography equipment, curriculum and instruction by Teresa Meier, as well as organized a community service project with Zenger Farms, guest speaking engagment with photographer Joel Preston Smith, a cyanotype project donation from Collage Art Supplies, and exhibition-quality prints from Pushdot Studios for the annual exhibition of the students' work at Newspace Center for Photography.

If you are interested in bringing Light Box Laboratories to your area please contact Teresa Meier.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Hi, I'm Teresa

Teresa Meier is a fine art photographer based in Oregon. Her interests range from self-portraiture and environment to a fascination with telling stories through photomontage. She has an MFA in photography from the Academy of Art University and a BS in psychology. She volunteers her time teaching photography to at-risk and underprivileged youth in the Portland community and firmly believes that photography changes lives. It changed hers. She loves a good adventure, spends much of her summers hiking and rafting in the Pacific Northwest and, like any good Oregonian, would never pass up a cold, delicious IPA. She has an unusually small tabby cat named Towels and an unusually large black cat named Richard Parker. Justin Lowry opened her heart. And she found her way home.

Her work has been exhibited internationally.

Laura Stanley

Laura Stanley is a Prevention Specialist with Trillium Family Servies.
